What we've done in the past! 

   Peer Partnership with Indiana University  

  • March 21- April 21, 2023 

  • A total of 12 people participated including friends from Indiana University. 

  • Topics of discussion: Setting professional profile, teaching strategies and resources, job application materials and interview tips, and professional development and working experience.

    Piano Prep Festival  

  • April 15, 2023 

  • Provide adjudication opportunities for current members and prepare students for the Tallahassee Music Teacher Association Student Day.  

     MTNA National Conference 

  • March 25 – 29, 2023; Casino Nugget Hotel, Reno, NV 

  • A total of six current students were presented at the conference.  

  • Presentation topic: A Survival Guide for Small-handed Pianists – An Application of Taubman Technique 

  • Approximately *50 people attended our session. 

Wellness Series: Live Well, Play Well, Teach Well: Exploring the Dimensions of Wellness 

Funding support from MTNA Collegiate Chapter Grant and FSU Student Success Center

  1. Finals Week Self-Care Day

    • December 5, 2022; 8:00am – 4:30pm; FSU College of Music Breezeway 

    • Collaboration Partner: FSU National Association of Music Education and College of Music Office of Student Success

    • Content: Free hot drinks, free snacks, wellness resources   

    • Approximately 80 students stopped by our wellness table.  

  2. Financial Budgeting Session 

    • January 20, 2023; 2 – 3pm; Lindsay Recital Hall 

    • Guest speaker: Heather Smith, NCTM 

    • Approximately 30 participants attended this session.  

    • Content: Budgeting and managing expenses for private studio.  

  3. Auditory Health Hearing Evaluations

    • February 7 and 8, 2023; 8:30 – 11:30am; KMU 040 

    • Collaboration Partner: FSU Audiology Department  

    • 80 faculty and students participated.  

  4. Bowling and Billiards at the Student Union 

    • February 12, 2023; 2:30 – 5:30pm; FSU Student Union 

    • Collaboration Partner: FSU College of Music Office of Student Success 

    • Approximately 50 students and faculty attended.  

  5. Mental Health and Music Seminar 

    • March 4, 2023; 2 – 3:30pm; Student Life Cinema at ASKEW Center

    • Approximately 15 students participated.

 MTNA Collegiate Chapters Symposium 

  • 10 – 11 January 2023, Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, TX. 

  • A total of 5 students presented at the symposium. 

  • Presentation topics:  

    • Jackie Yong – Intro into a New Era of Piano Technique Book: A Pedagogical Analysis of Fit 4 Piano through the Lens of Muscle Injury Prevention  

    • Melody Morrison – Cheatsheet to Spreadsheets:  How to Use Excel like a Pro in Your Music Studio! 

    • Xiao Liang, Xixi Shen, and Nina Yim – A Survival Guide for Small-Handed Pianists: An Application of Taubman Technique

Final Exam Prep Session for Group Piano Classes 

  • December 4, 2022; 4 – 6pm; Longmire Piano Lab 

  • Content: Provide free tutoring session for group piano students to prepare for their final exam. 

  • Approximately 20 students attended this session.
