REVIEW OF THE 2022-23 ACADEMIC YEAR
The MTNA at FSU Collegiate Chapter is proud to have been recognized as the 2022 Collegiate Chapter of the Year by MTNA. We presented a workshop titled: "A Survival Guide for Small-handed Pianists - An Application of Taubman Technique" at the 2023 MTNA Collegiate Chapters Symposium in Fort Worth, Texas on January 14-15, 2023. Additionally, we presented the same topic at the 2023 MTNA National Conference in Reno, Nevada, on March 25-29, 2023. We are so grateful for these opportunities and are humbled by this honor!
During the 2022-2023 academic year, our collegiate chapter planned a variety of events and new initiatives. Starting in Fall 2022, we began running the FSU Piano Pedagogy library, which allowed members to discover and check out valuable resources for piano teaching and learning. We also planned a year-long series of events that emphasized and advocated for musician health and wellness. On December 6, 2022, we co-hosted a Self-Care & Wellness Awareness Project with NAfME, which provided resources and designated space for students to relax and recharge in the midst of final exams. In Spring 2023, we hosted the following events within our Health and Wellness Series:
-
Financial Wellness (Heather Smith Zoom session) - January 2023
-
Social (bowling in Student Union) - February 2023
-
Frank Horvat Mental Health Session (part of REFRESH) - March 2023
-
Physical Wellness (Alexander Technique) - April 2023
Our Health and Wellness Series will be continued into the 2023-2024 school year!
